Eastern Musketeers Varsity lost 21-7 to Salem Thursday at Eastern despite Ben Wright’s two-hit day at the dish.
Two of Eastern Musketeers Varsity’s runs were scored thanks to timely hitting by Wright. He doubled in the second inning and singled in the fourth inning.
Salem easily handled Eastern Musketeers Varsity pitching as nine hitters combined for 20 hits, 18 RBIs and 21 runs scored.
Salem didn’t relinquish the lead after scoring three runs in the first inning when it scored on a fielder’s choice and an RBI single by Bowers.
Salem tacked on another five runs in the second. A clutch scored Cornett to open the scoring in the frame.
Two runs in the bottom of the third helped Eastern Musketeers Varsity close its deficit to 8-2. An error and a groundout by Wright triggered Eastern Musketeers Varsity’s comeback. Finally, Lamb got Wyatt Hurst to to end the threat.
Salem increased its lead with four runs in the fourth. The inning got off to a hot start when Hobson doubled, scoring Burch and Lamb. That was followed up by Thomas’ double, plating Kalb and Hobson.
After pushing across four runs in the bottom of the fourth, Eastern Musketeers Varsity faced just a 12-6 deficit. A steal of home by Dawson Petro, a sacrifice fly by Brant B. Stewart, an RBI single by Gavin Hurst, and an RBI single by Wright set off Eastern Musketeers Varsity rally. Finally, Lamb induced an inning-ending ground out from Hurst.
One run in the bottom of the sixth helped Eastern Musketeers Varsity close its deficit to 21-7. An RBI double by Hurst sparked Eastern Musketeers Varsity’s rally. The game went final when Ridge Hall struck out.
