The Eastern High School boys basketball team defeated Mid Southern Conference foe Clarksville 69-67 in a hard fought battle at home on Saturday, December 13. Both teams shared the lead throughout the game, with the Musketeers being able to finish the game with free throws from Khalil McDaniel. Leading the Musketeers was Alex Doebler with 21 points, including five 3 point buckets. Clarksville’s leading scorer was Evan Guenthner. The win puts Eastern at 3-2, 1-1 in conference games. The next game will be at West Washington as the team plays the Senators in the opening round of the Washington County Holiday Tournament.

The Lady Musketeers turn away Clarksville in a one-sided contest Saturday to improve to 2-1 in conference play. Lady Musketeers shooters went 4 for 6 in the first quarter from beyond the arch to grab an early lead and never looked back. Morgan Martin hit three 3 point baskets in Eastern’s first three possessions to start the hot streak. Freshman Rachel Stewart was also a spark for the Lady Musketeers as she lead all scorers with 18 coming off of the bench in the second quarter. The Lady Musketeers look to improve next week as they travel to New Washington next Thursday (Dec. 18).

The Eastern High School boys varsity basketball team traveled to Crawford County and was defeated 80-67. The teams played even the first half with the Musketeers entering halftime up 36-33. The second half was much more difficult for Eastern as Crawford County won that half 47-41. Leading in scoring for the Musketeers was Jessie Murphy with 19 followed by Alex Doebler with 15. Leading the Wolfpack ws Ranger Caffrey who scored 25. The Musketeers play on again on Saturday, December 13 at home against Clarksville.

Lady Musketeers were back in action Thursday night coming away with a win at West Washington. The win gives the Lady Musketeers victories over both county rivals this season. The Lady Musketeers were lead in scoring by Bailey England with 12. Morgan Martin and Rachel Stewart each contributing 10. The rest of the offense came in the following fashion: Drury 6; Feist 3; K. The ladies tightened things up before the half and remained in a tight contest throughout the third before Brownstown extended a late lead to pull away. The Eastern varsity boys basketball team returned home with a 70-68 win over county rival West Washington Friday night, December 5th. The game was a tough fight for both teams and was finally decided in the last 9 seconds of the game after a lay up from senior Jessie Murphy. Leading the Musketeers in scoring was Alex Doebler with a career high 30 points. Doebler scored on four 3 point baskets. The other important scorer for Eastern was Jessie Murphy with 21 points. Leading in scoring for the Senators were Noah Green with 18 and Michael Sizemore with 11. The Musketeers play next at Crawford County next Friday followed by a home game next Saturday against Clarksville.

The Eastern High School varsity boys basketball team lost to Scottsburg on Tuesday, December 2 71-56. The boys started out slow and came back in the second quarter with the Musketeers being down by 1 at half. Scottsburg’s pressure and quickness proved too much for Eastern in the end. Leading in scoring for the Musketeers was Austin Roberts with 19 points. The team will travel to West Washington this Friday for a game against the Senators.

Eastern converted 9 out of 14 free throws down the stretch and hung on for a conference win against Salem tonight. Taylor Drury and Bailey England led the way with 16 points and 13 points respectively. Alex Davidson had a game high 17 for Salem.

Salem jumped on top early with a 14-4 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. But a 16-2 second quarter put Eastern ahead at halftime 20-17. Both teams battled foul trouble in the 2nd half with the game not being decided until the final seconds.

Eastern improves to 3-3 on the season and 1-0 in MSC play. Salem drops to 3-2 and 0-1 in the MSC.

Leading in scoring for the Musketeers was Grant Newcomb, who scored 27 points including 5 three point shots, Jessie Murphy with 13, and Alex Doebler with 10. The Braves were led in scoring by Nathan Bachman with 15. Eastern will be playing their second game next Tuesday, December 2, when they host Scottsburg.

The Eastern High Schools boys cross country season ended at the Brown County Semi State on Saturday, October 25. The team finished 13th out of 20 teams, with only the top six teams advancing to the state meet. Kevin Warren led the Musketeers with a 31st place finish and a time of 16:38. Khalil McDaniel was the second Eastern runner with a finish of 38th and a time of 16:45. The remaining runners in order of finish for Eastern were Josh Ratts (45th), Connor Dawson (142), Leif Edlin (156th), Brandon Sill ( 163rd), and Trevor Lewellen (176th). Winning the meet was individually Seth Williams of Columbus North, who ran a time of 15:20, and the winning team was Columbus North.
