Miller’s Walk-Off Picture Perfect Ending In Eastern (Pekin) Varsity’s Victory Over Lanesville in Clarksville Sectional Semifinal game.
It came down to the wire on Saturday, with Eastern (Pekin) Varsity taking victory on a dramatic walk-off single in the late innings that sealed their victory over Lanesville. The game was tied at eight with Eastern (Pekin) Varsity batting in the bottom of the eighth when Payton Miller singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
A six-run lead in the sixth inning was just enough for Eastern (Pekin) Varsity to hold off Lanesville for the victory. Lanesville scored six runs in the failed comeback on a single by Kerr, a walk by Fink, a single by Casabella, and a double by M. Bailey.
Eastern (Pekin) Varsity got on the board in the first inning when Jacob Stewart hit a solo homer.
Lanesville knotted the game up at eight in the top of the seventh inning. M. Bailey drove in three when he doubled.
Eastern (Pekin) Varsity notched four runs in the sixth inning. Eastern (Pekin) Varsity’s big bats in the inning were led by by Landon Snelling and a double by Ryan Adamson.
Clayton Purlee led the Eastern (Pekin) Varsity to victory on the mound. He allowed zero hits and zero runs over one inning, walking zero. Snyder Pennington and Adamson entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
J. Bailey took the loss for Lanesville. He allowed four hits and two runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking one.
Sutherland started the game for Lanesville. He lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits and four runs while striking out six Miller started the game for Eastern (Pekin) Varsity. He lasted five innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out seven
