Eastern traveled to Scottsburg this weekend to compete in Scottsburg’s 8 Team Tennis Tournament and came home with the trophy.
The first team they competed against on Friday evening was North Harrison. The team came away from that match winning 5-0. Kaleigh Earhart won in the #1 Singles Position 6-1; 6-1. Madeline Lewellen won 7-5; 6-2 in the #2 Singles Position. Dylan Whitfield won 6-3; 7-6 (7-1) to take the #3 Singles position. Emily Smith and Mykenzee Graham once again teamed up to win 7-5; 6-1 in the #1 Doubles Position. Isabel Cox and Brooke Sease won in the #2 Singles position 6-3; 4-6; 6-4.
Saturday morning the team was back at the Scottsburg courts to take on Scottsburg who had defeated Brownstown the night before. Earhart was the first off the courts with a win in the #1 Singles position 6-3; 6-4. The next 2 points went to Scottsburg. Lewellen lost 3-6; 3-6 in the #2 Singles position and Whitfield lost 2-6; 1-6 in the #3 Singles position. Eastern’s #1 Doubles team tied the score back to 2-2 with Graham and Smith’s win of 6-4; 6-4. Once again, it would take the 5th match to determine the win. Scottsburg’s #2 Doubles team took the first set in a tie breaker. Eastern’s Cox and Sease came back to win the 2nd set 6-3. The final set was close, but Cox and Sease pulled out the win 6-4.
Eastern was set to play Salem (who had defeated BNL on Friday and Lanesville Saturday morning) in the Championship Match but Salem defaulted the match.
