Eastern (Pekin) fought back after falling down by six runs in the second inning. The comeback fell just short though, in a 9-8 defeat to Borden on Wednesday. Eastern (Pekin) scored four runs in the failed comeback. Hunter Anderson, Brant Farris, Landon Snelling, and came through with RBIs to lead the rally.
Eastern (Pekin) couldn’t keep up with Borden early in the game. Borden scored on a double by Marcum and a single by Knight in the first inning.
Borden got things started in the first inning. Borden scored two runs when Marcum doubled.
Eastern (Pekin) put up four runs in the fourth inning. Snelling and Anderson all drove in runs in the frame.
Borden scored five runs in the second inning. The big inning for Borden came thanks to a walk by Hall, a single by Reynolds, by Gasper, and an error on a ball put in play by Leftwich.
Holmes earned the win for Borden. He surrendered four runs on four hits over two and two-thirds innings, striking out one. Reynolds and Gentry entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Reynolds recorded the last four outs to earn the save for Borden.
Anderson took the loss for Eastern (Pekin). He lasted one inning, allowing five hits and eight runs while striking out one.
Eastern (Pekin) socked one home run on the day. Snyder Pennington had a four bagger in the first inning.
Eastern (Pekin) tallied seven hits in the game. Anderson and S. Pennington all managed multiple hits for Eastern (Pekin) Varsity.
S. Pennington and Anderson each collected two hits to lead Eastern (Pekin).
Borden racked up ten hits on the day. Reynolds, Leftwich, and Knight each had multiple hits for Borden.
