Eastern played a make-up match with Charlestown Monday afternoon and defeated them 4-1 at home.
Dylan Whitfield (E) came off the courts 1st in the #3 Singles Position with a win over Melana Rodriquez 6-0; 6-0. This is Whitfield’s 10th win in a row. #2 Singles ended shortly later. Skylar Cochron of Charlestown defeated Jenna Chastain 6-1; 6-1.
Isabel Cox and Cheyanne Huizar (E)teamed up to win the #2 Doubles Position 6-1; 6-4 over Hailey Thrasher and Grace Sellers. That put Eastern up 2-1 in team points.
Eastern had won both first sets in the 2 remaining positions left playing…#1 Singles and #1 Doubles. In the 2nd set however Charlestown was up in both sets. It looked like both matches might go to a 3rd set.
Kaleigh Earhart (E) won the 1st set 6-2 in the #1 Singles Position. In the 2nd set, Charlestown’s Samantha Matthews was up 4-1. Coach Shipman reminded Kaleigh that she has been down 1-4 in her last match over the weekend and came back for the win. Shipman encouraged her to keep fighting and focus on every point. Earhart came back and won the set and match 6-2; 7-5. That gave Eastern the team win.
In the #1 Doubles Position, Mykenzee Graham and Emily Smith (E) won the first set 6-1. They were down in the 2nd set also. They came back though and won the 2nd set in a tie-breaker. Their final match score was 6-1; 7-6 (7-4) over Brenley Berger and Amy Valasco.
