Despite a 7-run deficit in the sixth inning, Eastern (Pekin) almost came all the way back, eventually falling 11-9 to Providence on Friday. Eastern (Pekin) scored five runs in the failed comeback on a double by Snyder Pennington, a double by Payton Miller, and a stolen base by Miller.
Eastern (Pekin) fell behind early in the loss. Providence scored on a home run by Uhl in the first inning and a error in the second inning.
Providence got things moving in the first inning, when Uhl homered on a 1-2 count, scoring three runs.
Eastern (Pekin) scored five runs in the seventh inning. Eastern (Pekin) put the pressure on, lead by doubles by S. Pennington and Miller and a walk by Carson Ehlers.
Providence scored four runs in the third inning. Reisinger, Wilkinson, and Hutchins each drove in runs during the inning.
Wilkinson pitched Providence to victory. He allowed zero hits and four runs over five innings, striking out four. Kruer threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. Kruer recorded the last five outs to earn the save for Providence.
S. Pennington took the loss for Eastern (Pekin). He went two innings, allowing five runs on four hits and walking one.
Cauy Motsinger started the game for Eastern (Pekin) Varsity. He lasted one inning, allowing one hit and three runs
Miller, Snelling, Ehlers, S. Pennington, and Gonzalez each managed one hit to lead Eastern (Pekin).
Providence racked up 11 hits on the day. Watson, Reisinger, and Wilkinson each managed multiple hits for Providence. Watson led Providence with three hits in three at bats.
