Eastern (Pekin) jumped out to an early lead over Salem and took home an 11-5 victory on Thursday. Eastern (Pekin) scored on a single by Cauy Motsinger in the first inning, a single by Payton Miller in the first inning, a walk by Hunter Anderson in the first inning, a walk by Conner Gonzalez in the first inning, and a home run by Snyder Pennington in the second inning.
Eastern (Pekin) earned the victory despite allowing Salem to score three runs in the first inning. Salem scored its runs on a double by Mahuron.
Miller was the winning pitcher for Eastern (Pekin). He surrendered five runs on six hits over five and a third innings, striking out six. Snyder Pennington threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. S. Pennington recorded the last five outs to earn the save for Eastern (Pekin).
Arthur took the loss for Salem. He allowed two hits and five runs over two-thirds of an inning.
Eastern (Pekin) launched one home run on the day. S. Pennington had a four bagger in the second inning.
Eastern (Pekin) collected nine hits on the day. Miller, S. Pennington, and Brant Farris all managed multiple hits for Eastern (Pekin) Varsity. Miller led Eastern (Pekin) with three hits in four at bats. Eastern (Pekin) tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Landon Snelling led the way with two.
Salem tallied six hits on the day. Mahuron and Bowling each racked up multiple hits for Salem. Salem didn’t commit a single error in the field.
